Building a strong squad in EA SPORTS FC (formerly FIFA) Ultimate Team takes a lot of coins. That is why some players choose to buy coins from third-party sellers instead of earning them in game. In this article we explain, openly and honestly, how coin buying works, what the risks are and what you should know before deciding.
Know the Rules First
EA's user agreement and Ultimate Team rules prohibit buying and selling coins for real money. When EA detects transactions caused by coin trading, it can delete the coins, restrict the transfer market, reset the Ultimate Team club and, in the most serious cases, close the account. This means that whatever method is used, coin buying always carries a risk. Do not trust sellers who say "100% safe" or "you will never get banned"; nobody can make that promise.
Methods Used to Deliver Coins
Comfort Trade
Here the buyer gives the seller their login details; the seller logs in and generates the coins by trading on the transfer market. The buyer does not need to do anything, but you temporarily hand control of your account to someone else. That brings these risks:
- The seller could sell valuable players in your club and move the coins elsewhere.
- If your login details are used on other accounts, those are at risk too.
- A login from an unusual location/device can trigger EA's security checks.
Player Auction
The buyer lists a low-value player card on the transfer market with a high "Buy Now" price; the seller buys it at that price and the coins go to the buyer. No account details are shared, but transactions far above market value are among the patterns EA watches most closely. Also, because a 5% tax is taken from every sale on the transfer market, the amount reaching the buyer is a little lower.
Summary of Risks
| Risk | Comfort Trade | Player Auction |
|---|---|---|
| Sharing account details | Yes | No |
| Coin removal / restriction by EA | Yes | Yes |
| Seller misusing items in the account | Yes | No |
| Paying and not receiving coins | Reduced with protected payment | Reduced with protected payment |
If You Decide to Buy Anyway: Protect Your Account
If you decide to buy coins knowing the risks, at least minimise the risks you can control:
- Use a unique password. Your EA password should not be used anywhere else. If you do a comfort trade, set a temporary password beforehand.
- Change the password as soon as it is done. After a comfort trade, renew your password and, if needed, security questions immediately.
- Keep two-step verification on. Enable login verification on your EA account and keep your backup codes to yourself; never share them with the seller.
- Record your club. Take screenshots of your squad and coin balance before the trade, so you can prove what changed if something goes wrong.
- Pay with protection. Payment should not reach the seller before the coins arrive in your account.
Ways to Strengthen Your Squad Without Buying Coins
If you do not want to take any risk, you can still build up a serious amount of coins in game:
- Squad Building Challenges (SBC): Turn unneeded cards in your club into reward packs and valuable players.
- Objectives and season progress: Playing regularly earns packs, players and coin rewards.
- Rivals and Champions rewards: Weekly rewards are one of the steadiest income sources for consistent players.
- Trading on the transfer market: Following prices and using demand waves created by new events adds up over time.
- Official FC Points: Buying FC Points through official channels for packs and SBCs is the only paid method that complies with EA's rules.
Choosing a Seller
- Check the seller's review count and past transactions; be cautious with brand-new stores with no reviews.
- The delivery method, time and net amount delivered (after tax) should be clearly stated in the listing.
- Stay away from sellers who say "pay first, we'll talk later" or invite you off the site (WhatsApp, Discord).
- Keep all communication in on-site messages; in a dispute, support decides based on the records.
Conclusion
Buying coins can save time, but under EA's rules the risk is never zero. Accept that risk openly when deciding, never neglect account security and always pay through a protected system. If you cannot find your answer in the Help Center, contact our support team.
